Kopavogur has the largest population of the towns in the Reykjavík area. Kopavogur is diverse. The lake Elliðavatn which hotel Kriunes stands by is on the list of natural monuments and the easternmost part of Kopavogur is largely within Bláfjallafólkvangur where the ski area Bláfjöll and Þríhnúkagígur is but Þríhnúkagígur is a dormant volcano and is famous for its enormous magma chamber.
Gerðarsafn is a museum with modern and contemporary art. Gerðarsafn offers temporary exhibitions of works by Icelandic and international contemporary artists. The museum is open everyday from 10 am – 5 pm.
