Heiðmörk - Outdoor recreation area
Heiðmörk is a very popular outdoor recreation area in the capital area which is not far from hotel Kriunes and is about 3200 hectares of unspoiled land. Nearly a third of Heiðmörk is woodland and has a diverse wildlife. In Heiðmörk there are many hiking-, horse riding- and cycling trails and facilities for barbecues and picnics and play areas, something for everyone. Great place to enjoy the nature and peacefulness.
Elliðalake and Elliðariver
Hotel Kríunes lies on the shores of Lake Elliðavatn and the lake rests on the border of Reykjavík and Kópavogur. The main outflow of the water is Elliðaá. Both the lake and the river are popular areas for fishing for salmon, char and trout. Which is quite unique and rare to be able to go angling in the middle of the capital area. If you stay at the hotel during the fishing season, you can sometimes see anglers fishing on the shores of the lake.
